History

In 1951, Junior College with a three-year Evening Course was attached. The Junior College was discontinued in 1961.
In 1954, Graduate School with a one-year non-degree program was established.
In 1959, the Evening Course was expanded to a five-year program.
In 1964, Graduate School began two-year Master's Courses in 9 departments and discontinued the one-year non-degree program.
In 1973, Ceramic Engineering Research Laboratory was established.
In 1975, Educational Center for Information Processing was established.
In 1985, a large-scale reorganization took place, where Undergraduate Day Courses were reorganized into 6 departments; Undergraduate Evening Courses were reorganized into 4 departments; Master's Courses of the Graduate School were reorganized as well; Doctor's Courses in Materials Science and Engineering, and Systems Engineering were established at this time.
In 1986, Doctor's Courses in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Architecture and Civil Engineering were established.
In 1991, Undergraduate Day Course in Intelligence and Computer Science was established.
In 1997, Undergraduate Day Course in Systems Management and Engineering, and Doctor's Course in Environmental Technology and Urban Planning were established.
In 2000, Center for Information and Media Studies was established on the basis of Educational Center for Information Processing.
In 2001, Master's Course in Systems Management and Engineering, and Ceramics Research Laboratory were established.
In 2002, Quality Innovation Techno-Center and International Student Center were established.
In 2003, Graduate School was reorganized into the following system of 6 departments: Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Department of Engineering Physics, Electronics and Mechanics, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Department of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Industrial Management Engineering, Department of Environmental Techonlogy and Urban Planning, and Department of Techno-Business Administration. Moreover, Research Center for Nano-Device and System was established.
In 2004, Undergraduate School was reorganized into the present system of 7 Day Course departments and 4 Evening Course departments. At this time Techno-Innovation Center was established.
In 2008, Graduate School was reorganized into the present system of 7 departments, where Department of Frontier Materials and Department of Scientific and Engineering Simulation were newly established.
